This medium size Yemenite Shofar has a half polish and half natural finish. Hand-crafted in Israel, it is non-scented and has certification as Kosher from the Rabbinate. There is a choice of three sizes 26”28”, 29”-31” and 32”-33”. We recommend the 32” and up as the most suitable length for the bal tokeah – the one who blows in the Synagogue on Rosh Hashanah. The long spiral Yemenite shofar carries a striking elegance. For many generations, it was used by the Jews of Yemen. Now it is popular world-wide. Its origin is the horns of the African kudu, a large striped antelope with long powerful spiral horns. Before the State of Israel was founded, when the Turks and the British ruled Israel, the Jews were forbidden to blow the Shofar at the Western Wall. During the Six Day War in June 1967, Rabbi Shlomo Goren led the troops who liberated the Western Wall and blew a shofar to mark the occasion.
